Ocean Survival is one of the 12 games specially designed, handcrafted and painted by Friendly Liu for her Get Go Games exhibition. The original game is known as Jungle (鬥獸棋). Its concept is to raise everyone's environmental awareness and pay attention to the pollution of the marine ecology.
Lukas, a Czech man who began learning martial arts in 1998, studied under a master in Foshan, China for 11 years (2008-2019). Since 2023, he has been regularly and voluntarily teaching martial arts in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, hoping to improve the locals' selfdefense capabilities so that they can protect themselves even when their parents are not around.
During the 2023 Get Go Games exhibition in Berlin, Lukas visited and learned how to play "Ocean Survival” through Friendly Liu's explanation and fell in love with the game. He even bought the game, laminated the game paper and took it to Ukraine to teach local children and have fun with them. Two years later, after the Get Go Games exhibition in The Hague that just passed, a large piece of "Ocean Survival" game paper printed with the help of the non-profit organization and gallery “NGO DEI“ was left. Friendly, didn’t want to waste resources, took the initiative and hoped to take this opportunity to make a large version of "Ocean Survival" game, giving it to Lukas, who would then donate it to local children and teenagers in Ukraine.
If you would like to participate in this project, there are currently 20 chess pieces available. You can choose to donate HK$1,000, and Friendly will engrave your name on the back of the chess piece given to the children in Ukraine. The chess piece is 7x7cm. Alternatively, you can donate HK$1,500, and in addition to having your name on the chess piece you choose (each game piece given to the children in Ukraine can have up to 3 names crafted on it), Friendly will also make an extra game piece for you so that you also have a memento to prove that you participated in this meaningful project.
